Okay, so here’s something exciting. The TONYs are this weekend. Sunday on CBS! I know, right?! And that’s not even the exciting part. I’ve mentioned before that my bestie Emily and I make YouTube videos. We started doing this because we’re funny ladies, and we love pop culture (obviously). It started a little more broad, but we quickly gained a focus as a theatre-centric YouTube channel. We weren’t really sure anyone was watching us (I found out not even my mother had seen our videos, though she was a fan on facebook). For a long time, pretty much only our videos about Kristin Chenoweth and Patti LuPone had many hits. Then one day, we got our first taste of fame.
Emily was seeing TONY nominated Kate Baldwin, who we saw and adored in the recent revival of Finian’s Rainbow, in concert when in the middle of the performance, Emily thought she must be having stroke. Kate was discussing a video on YouTube about her, and Emily suddenly heard her and my voices talking about Google, Kate Baldwin, and Elaine Stritch. Yes, Kate Baldwin knew who we were, and more she adored us! And to my especial delight, she had shown our videos to Cheyenne Jackson. Mmmm…Cheyenne Jackson. Emily and I basked in our brush with the Great White Way and continued to make videos where we made snarky comments and swore too much.
Now we come to the really exciting part. Thankfully, the producers of Promises, Promises screwed up their rush policy, and after waiting for hours in the cold, Emily and I (along with my friend Susan) ended up getting tickets to Memphis. We didn’t know much about it, but we were determined to see a show that night. And hooray (or should I say, “Hockadoo!”) for Memphis! We loved the show so much, we made a stage door video. We also picked it to win several awards when we made our TONY prediction videos. Emily, being the marketing genius she is, posted these videos on their facebook page. One of the producers (shout out to Carolyn) saw us, fell in love (how could she not?!), and invited us to come see the show. I alluded to a fantastical opportunity we got in my “Gush” post, and here’s what’s up.
On Sunday, Emily and I will be attending Memphis’s TONY viewing party, which shows throw for staff, cast, family members, etc. who can’t or don’t want to shell out $200 to go to the actual ceremony. We’ll then be correspondants at Memphis’s TONY after party, doing interviews (wait ‘til you hear the ridiculous and amazing questions) with cast, staff, Barbra Streisand should she choose to attend, and so on. Throughout the night, Memphis will be uploading pictures and video to their various social networking sites:
Facebook
Twitter
Tumblr
So, please, watch Emily and I being our crazy selves with the cast of a TONY nominated musical. We bought fancy dresses (from JCPenney and Macy’s!) and push-up bras. It’s gonna be shmazing.
